We are a group of Première students from the Lycée Français de Barcelone, and we decided to take action. Convinced that a concrete, seriously-run project carried out on the ground can lasting change a community’s life, we launched an ambitious initiative: to build a complete water purification and distribution system for the entire village of Pihimbuwa.
This project could never have come to life without the support of our partners. Luminor Environmental Inc., a Canadian manufacturer specialized in UV purification systems, donated the technology that now lies at the heart of our infrastructure. Sarvodaya, our local partner in Sri Lanka, supports us on the ground to ensure the project is properly implemented alongside the community. Finally, the Lycée Français de Barcelone has backed our initiative from the very beginning.
Beyond its technical side, this project is above all a human adventure: that of a group of students who chose to dedicate their time, energy and resources to a cause bigger than themselves, in order to give an entire village lasting access to something as essential as clean drinking water.
Changing things often starts on a small scale — a village, a team, an idea.
